aaaaah Christmas ....

Come and gone again.

Interesting question posed by my daughter this year: "What was you favourite present to GIVE?"

Hmmmm. Mine were the headbands and hats i knit for my nieces and nephews and the books i picked out all by myself for darliing daughters BF.

Yup. What were your favourite presents to GIVE?

It's snowing ...

and that's better than rain, right? At least we can push snow to the side, lift it out of the way and slide over it.
Need we say that we can't do that with Rain?

AND we can dress for the snow! Sweaters, touques, hats, headbands, mitts, capes, cardigans, legwarmers, fingerless gloves. The world is your Oyster.

And the Oyster Shell is right here at On The Lamb.

(okay that was an awkward metaphor, but it kinda works!)

We've got what you need for any project, plus lots of notions to keep your projects in good order!

Come and see us! There's only 24 days, and 8 hours left 'til the Big Guy arrives! And he's expecting you to pull your own weight! Let's go! Let's knit!

My Monday ...

... went on my annual Christmas shopping trip with my Baby Girl, Sister-in-Law and her Mother-in-Law (MIL is 89 and out walked the three of us!) Pretty successful, shopping gettin' done!

Came home and finished the pattern for our headband that is displayed in our window for Christmas. (Are you seeing the patten?)

Wound yarn for a baby blanket; baby will be born just before Christmas (getting it?)

Just about to wind REALLY THICK RED yarn to make a CHRISTMAS stocking ....

You've got it now, right?

Christmas is coming and people love your handknit gifts.

And ... go!

pom pom update

tee hee hee!

It's Monday afternoon ...

and i'm making Pom Poms. Why? Hmmmmm ... stay tuned!

So what do you do on your day off?

A little gardening? A little housework? Make meals for the rest of the week? Walk the dog? Stack wood?

Beause that's what i did! Well, not exclusively, 'cause remember i made Pom Poms!

Looking forward to this evening when, sitting by the fire, sipping wine (or not 'cause i'm trying to loose weight!), and working out the BSJ pattern. Stay tuned for photos of the BSJ and our hard working Knit Wits that have been deciphering the pattern along with me...

What's BSJ? Okay. I'll tell you. Baby Surprise Jacket.

Yeah. It's a surprise all right.

Pictures on the way!

We have lots and lots of varigated wool that has arrived - you asked for it! we got it!

We have lots of "thick and thins" - even a limited edition of Woolly Bully - very pretty!

We have lots of new notions, very funny coffee cups that have sayings such as "Don"t talk to me, i'm counting", and "Daily Fiber" and "Keep Calm, Carry Yarn! among my favourites!

We are so enjoying our new home on Brock Street - we see even more of you than before, and that's a good thing!

Now, don't forget - only 73 days, 11 hours, 57 minutes to Christmas.

Those socks won't knit themselves!

you know .... an ice cube down the ...

bra used to do wonders to cool me off. I didn't get that wet t-shirt because ... i digress.

Okay. I give.

It's prooooooobably a little too hot to knit today.

So you can have a day off.

(Not me though! i finished 3 felted bowls and a really cool scarf called with Berroco yarn called Link.)

But you rest.

You've deserved it.

And to get you sufficiently hydrated; i lifted (read, stole!) a recipe from STYLE AT HOME (a terrific website by the way. www.styleathome.com.)

"This is the dreamiest drink i’ve had in ages. So agree the friends I most recently shared it with. They, like me, love how it’s naturally sweetened with honey. It’s a lot of fun to serve in chilled jelly glasses.

Also, the young, soft white seeds in a "seedless" watermelon are perfectly fine to ingest. Actually, they make your drink look even more watermelon-y "

Ingredients
4 cups 2-inch cubes watermelon
1 cup vodka, chilled
2 tablespoons honey (see note)
Garnish: small watermelon wedges with rind (optional)

Directions
Freeze the watermelon chunks in a zip-top plastic bag until just frozen, about 1 hour. Remove from the freezer and add to a blender. Pour in the vodka and honey. Process until blended and pour into frosted cocktail or jelly glasses. Garnish, if desired.

Note Use standard honey (say, clover) instead of a dark or other strongly flavored version; otherwise it’ll change the drink’s flavor in a disappointing way."

You're welcome.

Enjoy.

ahhh.....

we are all relaxing into our summer (finally!)

On The Lamb is too.

We will be closed on Sundays for July and August, so i can float in my pool!

Happy summer sunshiney days!

I can't believe it's NOT ...

cashmere!

Ordering has begun for the fall with all kinds of goodies are on their way in. BUT, i had to have this in the shop RIGHT AWAY!.

Royal Alpaca from AslanTrends; 100% Royal Alpaca Wool, 200 meters, 20 stitches/4'. $14.99. Wowzers!

And who can resist this face???? I don't know if these guys are Royal Alpaca's, but they look like princesses to me! (LOL.)

"Royal Alpaca is a rare and unique fiber, only 1% of all alpaca fiber production in the world can be classified as royal. At 19.0 to 19.5 microns is with no doubt the king of alpaca fiber. AslanTrends 100% Royal Alpaca is the best alpaca fiber in the world. Super soft, lighter and warmer than cashmere."

Compare with 100% cashmere at $29.99.

Now, don't get me wrong. I looooovvvve cashmere. But heck. For those of us with champagne tastes on a beer budget, come in and look at Royal Alpaca!

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

Huh?

Now, how funny is this?

I'm thumbing through my favourite magazine, humming and enjoying myself when i stumble upon this!

What is it you ask?

It's Bronzer for your Face, stamped with knitting stitches!

It's everywhere people - knitting is taking over the world!

So comfy and cozy ...

A cable pillow for your sofa!

Just the thing to cozy up to on a chilly summer night (i know, an oxymoron, but oh, so true!)

July 15th, 10:30 - come and learn how to make a wonderful, chunky pillow!

Just like the ones you see at the high-end design shops! Only better, 'cause you did it!

Come alone, come with friends. We always have a ball!

Monday, June 13, 2011

sure could use a warm lap blanket right about now!

Just sitting here, quite satisfied that my spring planting has finally been done. Not my spring weeding, but that's another story. It's chilly here and i'm watching the spring rain.

I was thinking what i need is a lovely, patterned lap blanket. Just a little bit of somethin' somethin' to keep me warm on the spring evenings.

How about it? We could do a slip stitch pattern - very easy. A very simple garter stitch? Step it up and bit and do a bit of cableing? You could use cotton? Bamboo? Even light weight wool?

The world is your oyster my friend.

Go make a pearl.

i ... just ... dont' think ... that .... i .... can

reach my arm around to pat myself on my back, like i should!

Seriously - in the last three days i have finished my friends bday gift (beauty socks made with beauty yarn i bought in beauty Maine two years ago!), a child's vest (a la golfing, no less) and a Frill seeker Lite Metallic scarf (yes, it really only takes 1/2 a ball!)

Yes. I'm proud of myself. So proud, i even took a picture! and yes i am blocking - you are too, right? and again, it's quite ingenious how i work the name of the shop in to the picture, eh?

What have you got going on? Let me know!

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

Hey ... i've got a good idea!

How about we do a "Knit Along?" I pick the project (or we could go all night!) and we meet every couple of weeks or so to see how we're doing and encourage one another?

I have often wanted to make the scarf/shawl shown below. But i lacked the time and the energy and i need a team to encourage me (just like you!).

Why don't we do it together???

This is a very well known scarf, knit by a girl who lived in Paris. French women are known for wearing scarves. Starting in September and until summer arrives, this is a most important accessory. The scarf may be striped or patterned, colorful, wrinkled and is much bigger than the scarves you probably have. Women just wrap the scarf around their neck in a "Je suis belle et ça ne demande aucun effort*" sort of way and off they go. And we'll be done by September! It's called the Clapotis. Don't know what that means, but it's french so it's FABULOUS!

Oooolala! A certain "je ne c'est quoi?" do you think?

What say you? We can do it! We only have to try!

Here's the dets: no charge, 10% discount if you purchase yarn here, meet every two weeks beginning June 22 (that's my brothers bday so it's a good day!)

C'mon! Let's do it. We can even do it sitting outside in the sun!

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

knitting ... gardening ... walking with an umbrella ...

... it's hard to know what to do this spring, isn't it? Here, in Uxbridge we've had a record 100 and something days without sun. Wicked for those with SAD.

Here's my solution.

Knit something that's bright and sunny!
Can't hurt and just might help!
How about a sunny yellow cotton? Make a nice cotton vest for those cool (and damp) nights.

How about fushia or hot pink?

How about cool blues to cool you down when the hot weather starts ('cause it will, you know it will!)

Got a gorgeous shawl pattern i just picked up and two weddings for the fall. I'm thinking that a wonderful Misti Alpaca Lace yarn will be just the thing!!!

Hope to see you in soon. We have lots of solutions for all your issues!

Frill Seeker ...

is back! And we are announcing Frill Seeker Metallic! It's just a little narrower than regular frill seeker, but has a metallic thread running through it! Really really Beautiful!

I can't hold any balls for anyone - you'll just have to come in and see for yourself!

I have been remiss ...

... i have not been blogging. There. I said it. And here's something else i'll say. APPARENTLY moving shop takes a really, really, really lot of time.

But i'm back ... i think ....

Here's a little titbit for you: lots of Ladies have been asking for patterns short sleeved, t-shirt kinda tops, and they aren't always easy to find. But i found 'em!

Go to your local bookstore (if they sell knitting mags) or chapters otherwise; buy the summer edition of knitscene, from the publishers of Inerweave KNITS. There are some really great cute tops (by a designer called Christoffers, no less) that will satisfy your cravings for summer t's!

Thursday, April 21, 2011

WHAT????

Okay - it has to be said.

Where is the spring?

Having said that ... i assure you we still have lots of wool to make a sweater.

'cause you might need it!

So much to tell you!

We are so excited about our new shop! And we know you are excited too ... 'cause you tell us!

Biggest Challenge? Making my beeaauuutifulllll window look nice every two weeks.

Yup that means i gotta knit (or get some fab friend to knit for me!) wonderful samples for the window!

And we love Brock street; You need to meet our neighbours too!

I gotta tell you that the Blue Heron Book Store has been nominated for most wonderful bookstore in Canada .
Frankie's, the gluten free bakery, has won an award for the most innovative bakery in all of Canada! AND Frank, the baker/co-owner from Frankie's is bringing me pasta today for lunch! Gonna try the wheat-free pasta!

Oh yes, AND (lots of capitals today, huh?) Ginny from Elemi Organics, who offers natural products that are simple, practical and as unique as Nature herself, was a contributor to the Swag Bags (those freebie bags that all the stars get for attending award shows 'cause i guess they can't afford stuff) at the Grammy's this year which is a very big honour.

Yup. Those, ladies and gentlemen, are our neighbours here on Brock Street.

We really gotta step up to the plate and win something!

Anyone want to nominate us?

Tuesday, April 5, 2011

New and Wonderful!

... and you are all coming to our Yarn Crawl on Saturday April 9th, right?
20% off everything in the store, even the new stock!
I KNOW!

We now carry Brittany needles: The warmth and smoothness of hardwood nurtures sensitive fingers and provides natural strength and consistency for a lasting product. All wood used by Brittany comes from strictly regulated forests or small woodland owners in the United States ensuring proper environmental logging practices and selective cutting for maximum reforestation.

And if you don't want to knit, you can always do this with them!

It is absolutely ridiculous how much junk there is under my counter that i really, really, really needed.

Until i have to move it.

Now i don't need it.

Really.

A reminder folks - shop is closed on Friday March 11th until Tuesday March 15th when we reopen in our new location.

Friday, February 25, 2011

Wowzers!

Sooooooooo much to tell!

Okay.

Get ready.

ARE YOU READY?????

WE BOUGHT A BUILDING! 66 & 68 Brock Street West - right in the middle of Uxbridge's Brock Street. Two doors up from the bookstore, next door to the bakery, 3 doors up from Presents. Next door to Woods & Woods.

It's exciting and fun.

So come on Friday arch 11 if you want to pack. But if you want to visit the new digs, come on Tuesday March 15h.

Oh, and to ease the pain. 25% off everything in the shop EXCEPT Frill Seeker and Frill Seeker Lace.

1/1/11

Yup, it's one of those mathematical cutie thingies - where the numbers all repeat and stuff. I'm very number-y.

We wish all of our friends a very Happy New Year! We've had a bit of a break (where we worked 3 days in a row at home - no, i'm okay. Really.) and worked out classes for the next three months. We've had a huge interest in classes and hopefully we have something for everyone!

Please check our website for our current list: www.onthelamb.ca. Also, we will have class lists printed out at the shop for your convenience.

Happy Year ... now i'm going to turn on a movie and knit MYSELF something.

Wow.
